The university distinguishes itself with its innovative education model (problem-based learning), international character and multidisciplinary approach to research and education. In recent years, the university has opened a campus in the northern Limburg city of Venlo, where health, nutrition and business are the three focus points. Research at Campus Venlo is done in an interdisciplinary triple helix fashion (government, industry and research institutes) within these three research and education topics.
